Dec 12, 2018Dec. 4, 2018Frederick Leon “Freddie” Akins, 80, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018.Freddie was born in Walker County. He was the son of Rev. Daniel Wilson Akins and Trannie Smith Akins.He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sarah Palmer Akins; five daughters, Kathy Akins Storey (Ken), Diann Akins Morales (Ricky), Darla Akins Peace (Steve), Lori Akins McGowan and Jennifer Akins Moore (Ken); siblings, Mary Akins Thompson, Jimmy Akins, David Akins, Randy Akins and Judy Akins Brown; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy Connor, Brandi Storey, Ashley McGowen, Blake Storey, Russell Wood, Kimberly Peace, Kyle Peace, Angelica Morales, Kelsey McGowan and Nicholas Morales; four great-grandchildren, Kenadi Sprouse, Chloe McGowen, Gage Reach and Leida Gray; a host of nieces and nephews; and dear friends, The Rudd family.He is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Trannie Akins; sister, Mildred Akins Trapp; an infant brother; his son-in-law, Craig McGowan; and his beloved nephews and niece, Shannon Sullins, Jacob Sullins, Erin Drake, Bridgett Akins and Austin Akins. Freddie was a graduate of Mortimer Jordan High School, a member of the Teamsters Union, a past Grand Master of the Hewitt/North Birmingham 519 Masonic Lodge, and Riverwood Hunting and Fishing Club. The family will receive friends Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Messmer Goodwin Funeral Home in Warrior.
